Barcelona Run Clubs: Where to Run in a Group and Meet People
Also in: BerlinHamburgCologneMunichZurichParisMadridMexico CitySão Paulo (Portuguese)
Nine running groups in Barcelona, along the beach, on Montjuïc or in the Ciutadella, at sunrise, after work or at the weekend. Where they meet, who they suit and how to sign up.

Running in a group is one of the easiest ways to meet people in Barcelona: a set time, a route along the beach, through the Ciutadella or up Montjuïc and, often, a coffee or a drink afterwards. We only list groups that describe their runs on their own page or channel.

The run clubs one by one
Barcelona Casual Runners (Ciutadella and Montjuïc)
A group of sociable runners of all levels, for whom chatting is part of every run. On Tuesdays at 7:30 pm they meet at the bar La Querida, Passeig de Pujades 33, where you can leave your things, and set off from the door: about 10 km, everyone at their own pace, with plenty of chances to turn back early. Before the run they take a group photo, and afterwards they stay for a drink or a bite at the bar, with no obligation. On Mondays at 7:30 pm they run on Montjuïc from the Font Màgica, on Plaça de Carles Buïgas: 8 to 10 km in an hour, with about 300 metres of climbing. The group points out that this is not a run for beginners and recommends it only if you run 10 km on the flat in 50 minutes or less; if not, start with the Tuesday run. Meetup shows no fee. YEPALO Sunrise Runners (Barceloneta)
A group for running or walking along the beach as the sun rises, open to beginners, to people who already run and to those who prefer to walk. Currently they meet on Wednesdays and Fridays outside Buenas Migas, at Plaça del Mar 1: the warm-up starts at 7:30 am and the run at 7:38 am. There are usually 10 to 25 people, who split into three or four groups: walkers and runners at an easy pace (6:00 to 7:30 minutes per kilometre), a medium pace (5:00 to 6:00) or a faster pace (4:00 to 5:00). At the end, some go for a swim in the sea; if you fancy it, bring swimwear and a towel. Those in no hurry go for a coffee or breakfast afterwards. The activity is free. Midnight Runners Barcelona (Port Vell)
The Barcelona branch of an international running community that runs to music. It's free and led by volunteer captains; anyone who wants to can support it with an optional fee. According to its description, they meet on Wednesdays for a 6 km run with three stops for exercises, and they also organise special runs. Currently the Wednesday run announced on Heylo starts at the Time Out Market: check-in and cloakroom at 7:45 pm, warm-up and run at 8 pm and, at 9:30 pm, something to drink and eat at the same place. The runs and the exact time of each one are posted in the Heylo app. Midnight Runners Barcelona on Heylo
Keep Calm Barcelona (varying meeting points)
A free, non-profit community for English speakers in Barcelona, run by volunteers, with at least twenty activity groups; one of them is the running group. They run along the beach, through the Ciutadella or up Montjuïc, and announce the meeting point, the time and the distance in advance. All paces are welcome: the faster runners turn back so that nobody is left behind. Runs are announced in its WhatsApp community, not on Meetup. keepcalm.fit
BCN Globals Run Club (Barceloneta)
The running group of BCN Globals, a community that brings together people from abroad and locals in Barcelona. On Mondays they meet at 7:30 pm, warm up at 7:45 pm and at 8 pm set off for 5 km along the beach, a social run that is also meant for beginners: you don't need to be fast. On Wednesdays at 7:30 pm there's a training session of about 6 km, with a warm-up, running technique exercises and intervals. Both start from La Carioca, at Plaça de Pau Vila 1, a few metres from Barceloneta metro station. The announcements are in English. Both sessions are free; if you sign up through Luma, you can leave a voluntary tip. BCN Globals on Meetup
Las Pasteles (Arc de Triomf)
A free running group for women only, which aims to build friendships through movement. They meet at the Arc de Triomf on Wednesdays at 7 pm, for 5 km aimed at beginners, and on Fridays at 7:05 am, at sunrise, for 5 km for all levels and a coffee afterwards. The runs are posted on their Luma calendar. Las Pasteles on Luma
AERUNIX CLUB (Barceloneta)
A social run on Sunday mornings in Barceloneta. The Meetup calendar lists runs every Sunday at 11 am from the Surf House. Earlier announcements described an easy route of about 5 km by the sea, with coffee afterwards, and one of them, with Barcelona International Social, announced the run as free and for all paces. Check the time, the route and the price in the next Meetup announcement, where you also sign up. AERUNIX CLUB on Meetup
PB:Running Club (Barceloneta and Glòries)
The running club of PB:Training does interval sessions from Tuesday to Thursday in the parks of Barceloneta and Glòries: on Tuesdays at 7:15 am in Barceloneta and at 7:30 pm in Glòries, on Wednesdays at 8 pm and on Thursdays at 7:30 pm in Barceloneta. It also organises strength sessions, including one on Mondays in the Ciutadella. It's open to all levels, from beginners to experienced runners. The sessions are more structured than an easy run with coffee, and the club also organises social activities. There is a fee: 10 € a session or 40 € for an unlimited pass for the calendar month. You book your session on Meetup through the link on the PB:Training website. PB:Running Club on Meetup
Panteres Grogues Running (Arc de Triomf and Montjuïc)
The running section of Panteres Grogues, a sports club in Barcelona that describes itself as "LGTBI+ & friends". They run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30 to 8:30 pm, with runs for all levels: on Mondays from the Arc de Triomf towards the coast and on Wednesdays from the CaixaForum, up Montjuïc. For a trial run, you write to the section; to carry on, you pay the club's membership fee and, according to the page, 10 € a year for the section. Panteres Grogues Running
How to find your club
- Pace: If you want to walk, YEPALO has a group for that. If you're just starting to run, look at BCN Globals' Monday 5 km or, if you're a woman, the Wednesday run of Las Pasteles. If you're after something tougher, Casual Runners' Monday run on Montjuïc; if you want more structured training, PB:Running.
- Time: At sunrise you have YEPALO on Wednesdays and Fridays and Las Pasteles on Fridays; after work, Casual Runners, BCN Globals, Midnight Runners, Las Pasteles and Panteres Grogues; on Sunday mornings, AERUNIX.
- Language: Keep Calm is a community for English speakers. Casual Runners and BCN Globals post their announcements in English, YEPALO in Spanish and English.
- Cost: Most of the runs described are free; PB:Running charges per session or with a monthly pass, and at Panteres Grogues, after the trial, you pay the membership fee and 10 € a year for the section.
- Group: Las Pasteles is for women only; Panteres Grogues is an "LGTBI+ & friends" club.
- Where it's announced: Casual Runners, YEPALO, BCN Globals, AERUNIX and PB:Running on Meetup, Midnight Runners on Heylo, Las Pasteles on Luma, Panteres Grogues on its website and Keep Calm on its WhatsApp; check the notice for each run.
After the run
Simple questions work: "Do you often do this route?", "How long have you been coming?", "Are you training for a race?" If the club has a WhatsApp group, check the announcements of its activities there. And if you got on well with someone, suggest running together next week.
For people who lead a run club
If you lead a run club like these, you know the moment after the coffee when everyone heads off without swapping numbers. before is a web app for organisers. Before the start you show the QR code on your phone; runners check in with it in their browser, without installing an app, and anyone who likes takes a selfie. The day after, the afterparty is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Anyone who shared a selfie sees everyone else who shared one there and can press the button for meeting again for up to five people. At 8 pm everyone finds out at the same time who wants to see each other again, and only then does a chat open. One-sided wishes stay invisible, and nobody receives a rejection. Nobody needs a profile. More on the page before for organisers.
