The run clubs one by one
London Social Runners (South Bank and Hyde Park)
An international group of beginners and experienced runners with two free weekly runs. On Wednesdays at 7 pm they meet at the river-side entrance of the National Theatre for a 7.5 km loop along the Thames, over Tower Bridge and back over Waterloo Bridge, then have a drink at The Understudy; for this run the group asks that you are comfortable with the distance and can run at about 6 minutes per kilometre or faster. On Saturdays at 10 am they meet in the south-west corner of Kensington Gardens, just inside the Kings Arms Gate, for one lap of Hyde Park, about 6.5 km, open to all levels and followed by coffee or brunch. Serpentine Running and Triathlon Club (Hyde Park)
The club's Hyde Park social run starts on Saturday mornings at 9:30 am outside the main entrance of the Serpentine Bar and Kitchen, every Saturday except the first of the month. You choose a 7 km route through two parks or an 11.5 km route through three. The club welcomes adults regardless of pace and experience, and its pace groups usually range from about 4:45 to 7 minutes per kilometre. Non-members can try a few sessions for free; you register for the session you plan to join. For complete beginners the club recommends its beginners' courses instead. Other sessions open to visitors are on its visitors page. Serpentine, Hyde Park social run
Midnight Runners London (various locations)
The London crew of an international running community. Bootcamp runs mix running with music and exercise stops, with most runners covering a kilometre in four to six minutes and a chance to chat and grab a drink afterwards; long runs are usually over 15 kilometres at a mixed pace, and track sessions are for all levels. A bootcamp run listed on Heylo is free; for the other formats, check each listing. Dates and meeting points are posted on Heylo. Midnight Runners London
Finsbury Flyers (Finsbury Park)
A running group for women that welcomes anyone who identifies as female. The improvers' groups run on Tuesdays at 7 pm and Fridays at 7:30 am in Finsbury Park and suit you if you can already run for about 20 minutes. The club's page gives 45 minutes and £5 a session, while the current booking pages on RunTogether list 30-minute sessions at £6. There is no membership fee, and you book each session on its own, so you can try one first. There is also an eight-week beginners' course from 0 to 5 km several times a year. For people who lead a run club
If you lead a run club like these, you know the moment after the coffee when everyone heads off without swapping numbers. before is a web app for organisers. Before the start you show the QR code on your phone; runners check in with it in their browser, without installing an app, and anyone who likes takes a selfie. The day after, the afterparty is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Anyone who shared a selfie sees everyone else who shared one there and can press the button for meeting again for up to five people. At 8 pm everyone finds out at the same time who wants to see each other again, and only then does a chat open. One-sided wishes stay invisible, and nobody receives a rejection. Nobody needs a profile. More on the page before for organisers.
