Cologne Run Clubs: Where to Run and Meet People

Also in: BerlinHamburgMunichZurichParisMadridBarcelonaMexico CitySão Paulo (Portuguese)

Nine run clubs in Cologne, in the green belt, the Stadtwald and at the Rheinauhafen, after work and at weekends. Where they meet, who they suit, how to join.

Runners after their run on a bright Saturday morning on the lawn of a park under old trees; some sit in the grass with paper cups, two laugh, one hands a cup to someone

Run clubs are an easy way to meet people in Cologne: a set time, a run side by side, often a coffee afterwards. We only list groups that announce their runs on their own page, channel or event page.

Cologne Running Crew (Lindenthal)

You RSVP on Meetup; the group shares the exact meeting point there and on WhatsApp. Longevity Cologne Running Club

The Female Run Club Köln (Belgian Quarter)

The Cologne group of the women's running community: on Sundays at 10 am from LAP Coffee on Limburger Straße, five to six kilometres at the group's pace. Free, sign-up on Eventbrite; the run is for women only. The Female Run Club

Sunday Running Club Köln (Belgian Quarter)

Every Sunday on Brüsseler Straße: meet at 8:45 am for ten kilometres or at 9:25 am for five, with coffee afterwards. Fast and slow paces are welcome, and entry is free. The event page gives the exact meeting point. Sunday Running Club Köln on rausgegangen

Combined Rhine Area Pack Hash House Harriers (changing places)

A hash group for Cologne and the Rhineland. The trails, a kind of running paper chase, change place and date; some start in Cologne, others in the region, and the group gets together afterwards. Dates are on the group's site. Combined Rhine Area Pack

How to find your club

  • Pace: Five kilometres at a conversational pace at Longevity Cologne, five kilometres at the Sunday Running Club too, at the group's pace at the Female Run Club. For about ten kilometres at 6:00 per kilometre, the Cologne Running Crew; for intervals, KRAFT.
  • Time: After work, the Frontrunners on Mondays, the Cologne Running Crew and the Frontrunners on Wednesdays, KRAFT on Thursdays. At weekends, Longevity and PALS on Saturdays, with the last PALS run at noon, and the Sunday Running Club and the Female Run Club on Sunday mornings.
  • Group: The Female Run Club is for women only; the Frontrunners belong to a queer sports club.
  • Afterwards: Coffee at PALS and the Sunday Running Club, sometimes at Longevity, socialising at the hash.
  • Signing up: Eventbrite for the Female Run Club, Meetup for Longevity, a message before your first run with the Frontrunners; KRAFT and the Cologne Running Crew need no sign-up.

After the run

Simple openers work: "Do you run this route often?", "How long have you been coming?", "Are you training for something?" If the group has a WhatsApp channel, join it; the next runs are posted there. And if you got on well with someone, suggest running together next week.

For people who lead a run club

If you lead a run club like these, you know the moment after the coffee when everyone heads off without swapping numbers. before is a web app for organisers. Before the start you show the QR code on your phone; runners check in with it in their browser, without installing an app, and anyone who likes takes a selfie. The day after, the afterparty is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Anyone who shared a selfie sees everyone else who shared one there and can press the button for meeting again for up to five people. At 8 pm everyone finds out at the same time who wants to see each other again, and only then does a chat open. One-sided wishes stay invisible, and nobody receives a rejection. Nobody needs a profile. More on the page before for organisers.

The afterparty opens after your event

When you check in at an event powered by before, you get the link by email, no later than 24 hours after it ends.
