Vancouver Run Clubs: Where to Run and Meet People

Also in: BerlinHamburgCologneMunichZurichParisMadridBarcelonaLondonNew YorkLos AngelesChicagoSan FranciscoManchesterEdinburghBristolDublinTorontoSydneyMelbourneBrisbaneBuenos Aires (Spanish)Santiago de Chile (Spanish)São Paulo (Portuguese)

Nine run clubs in Vancouver and Burnaby, before and after work and on weekend mornings, from Kitsilano, Yaletown and the West End to Stanley Park and Oak Street. Where they meet, who they're for, and how to join.

Runners in their late twenties and thirties catching their breath at the end of a gravel trail among tall cedars and ferns on a bright, misty fall morning; two laugh as they tie damp rain jackets around their waists, one stretches her calf against a mossy fallen log, one hands a water bottle along, sunlight slanting through the trees

Run clubs are an easy way to meet people in Vancouver: a set time, a run or a walk side by side, and at some clubs a coffee afterwards. We only list groups that announce their runs on their own page or channel.

After the run

Simple openers work: "Do you run this route often?", "How long have you been coming?", "Are you training for something?" If the group posts on Strava or Heylo, follow it there for updates. And if you hit it off with someone, suggest running together next week.

For people who lead a run club

If you lead a run club like these, you know the moment after the coffee when everyone heads off without swapping numbers. before is a web app for organisers. Before the start you show the QR code on your phone; runners check in with it in their browser, without installing an app, and anyone who likes takes a selfie. The day after, the afterparty is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Anyone who shared a selfie sees everyone else who shared one there and can press the button for meeting again for up to five people. From 8 pm each guest sees in the app whether their wish is mutual, and only then does a chat open. One-sided wishes stay invisible, and nobody receives a rejection. Nobody needs a profile. More on the page before for organisers.

The afterparty opens after your event

When you check in at an event powered by before, you get the link by email, no later than 24 hours after it ends.
