Munich Supper Clubs: Shared Tables and Dinner with Strangers

Also in: BerlinHamburgCologneViennaZurichLondonParis (French)Barcelona (Spanish)Rio de Janeiro (Portuguese)

Eight supper clubs, cooking get-togethers and shared tables in Munich, from free cooking evenings in neighbourhood centres to a one-table dinner at a cookery school. Where, how often, what it costs.

Guests in their late twenties and thirties at pushed-together tables with mismatched chairs in a bright community room on a Sunday morning; one woman passes a large tray of roast vegetables, two laugh, one man pours water from a carafe, bread, bowls of salad and fruit on the table, autumn light through the windows

At a shared table you sit next to people you have never met, and the food gives you the first thing to talk about. In Munich many of these tables start with cooking together and end with a shared meal: in neighbourhood centres, community kitchens and cookery schools. We only list tables that announce their dates on their own page or channel. Times change, so check the organiser's page before you go.

After dinner

Simple openers work: "Have you been to one of these before?", "What's the best thing you've eaten in Munich lately?", "Can you recommend another table like this one?" And if you got on well with someone, suggest going to the next date together.

For people who host a supper club

If you host a table like these, you know the moment at the door when guests leave without swapping numbers. before is a web app for organisers. When guests arrive you show the QR code on your phone; they check in with it in their browser, without installing an app, and anyone who likes takes a selfie. The day after, the afterparty is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Anyone who shared a selfie sees everyone else who shared one there and can press the button for meeting again for up to five people. At 8 pm everyone finds out at the same time who wants to see each other again, and only then does a chat open. One-sided wishes stay invisible, and nobody receives a rejection. Nobody needs a profile. More on the page before for organisers.

The afterparty opens after your event

When you check in at an event powered by before, you get the link by email, no later than 24 hours after it ends.
