A shared dinner at long tables, hash runs, dinners with strangers, board game nights, language cafés, discussion groups and Latin dancing: real ways to meet people in Munich.

People at a long table in the evening, a bowl of salad being passed along, a pot of stew, bread, candles and red wine on the table; one laughs, two talk with their hands

Munich has plenty of weekly evening events, and if you go regularly, you can see the same people again. This guide sorts the options by type, with concrete examples. We only list what the organisers describe on their own pages. Times change, so check the organiser's own page before you go.

Options by type

Eating with others

The SchlösslDinner at the Pelkovenschlössl in Moosach is a shared dinner at long tables every Tuesday except during school holidays. You arrive between 17:40 and 17:50, and dinner runs from 18:00 to 19:30. Adults pay €11 (2026). If the main course contains meat, a vegetarian option is available; request it when you reserve. You can reserve and pay until 12:00 on the Friday before, and often at short notice until Monday.

Timeleft brings together people in Munich who do not know each other: on Wednesdays and Fridays at 19:00 for dinner with four to six people you have not met yet, on Mondays at 19:00 for a women-only dinner, on Saturdays at 15:00 for a coffee and on Sundays at 10:00 for a walk. The app shows the venue beforehand. You need a subscription to book, and the price depends on the plan you choose; you pay for your own food and drinks (2026).

Running or walking

The Munich Hash House Harriers meet every other Saturday for a trail you can run or walk. The starting point varies, mostly in and around Munich and sometimes further away, so check Meetup first. Newcomers are welcome, you do not need to be a member, and a run costs €5 (2026).

Board game nights

At a game table you have something to do and something to talk about straight away. Munich Social Gaming plays every Monday from 18:30 at Stragula, Bergmannstraße 66, in the Westend, in English. There is no entry fee; you only pay for what you order (2026). Register on Meetup and only come once you are on the attendee list, not the waiting list.

The Munich Boardgame Meetup holds an English-language board game night once a month at the EineWeltHaus, Schwanthalerstraße 80, with games ranging from easy to learn to more complex. The group asks for a contribution towards the room, most recently €2, payable on arrival (2026).

Languages

At the Language Bazaar München people practise different languages in an international group on Saturdays at 19:00 at the Park Café, Sophienstraße 7. Dates are on Meetup.

If you are learning German, the Munich city library runs Sprachcafé Deutsch sessions at several branches, including Tuesdays from 17:00 to 18:00 in Sendling. All ages and levels are welcome, you do not need to register, and entry is free (2026).

Über den Tellerrand's Tea-Talk meets monthly from 18:30 to 20:30 at the Kitchen Hub, Lindenschmitstraße 1. The organiser describes it as a meeting for women* whose first language is not German, at any level. Native speakers can join as volunteer hosts. Dates and registration are on the association's Munich page.

Discussion groups

At the Socrates Café sessions run by Minds in Motion Munich, participants discuss different topics, most recently at z'sam, Theresienstraße 63. The group asks for a small donation for the room; dates are on Meetup.

Dancing

The association Salón Cubano holds dance nights with Latin music on Sundays from October to March at the Giesinger Bahnhof. The party costs €10; many dates have a dance class beforehand, and the class and party together cost €15 (2026). Dates also go out in the association's newsletter.

Going alone

Pick one format and go three times before you judge it. The first evening is often the most awkward, and every time you return, you are more likely to see familiar faces. A shared activity can make it easier to start a conversation by giving you something to talk about: the game, the language, the trail, the dance. At a long table, asking someone to pass a bowl is already a start.

Good openers are deliberately ordinary: "Is this your first time too?", "How did you find out about it?", "Which language are you practising?" Ask one follow-up question and listen to the answer.

Making plans to meet again

A good conversation does not turn into a second meeting on its own. Before you leave, suggest something concrete: "Are you coming again next Tuesday?" or "I'm going to the game night on Monday, want to come?" A specific suggestion is easier to answer than "We should do something sometime".

Try it this week

  • Pick one format from the table above
  • Put the date in your calendar and check it on the organiser's page
  • Arrive five minutes early and talk to one person
  • Before you leave, suggest a specific plan to meet again

For organisers

If you host evenings like these, you know the moment: people get on well and then lose touch. before is a web app for organisers. Guests check in at the door with a QR code in their browser, without installing an app, and anyone who likes takes a selfie. The day after, the afterparty is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Anyone who shared a selfie sees everyone else who shared one there and can press the button for meeting again for up to five people. At 8 pm everyone finds out at the same time who wants to see each other again, and only then does a chat open. One-sided wishes stay invisible, and nobody receives a rejection. Nobody needs a profile. More on the page before for organisers.

The afterparty opens after your event

When you check in at an event powered by before, you get the link by email, no later than 24 hours after it ends.
