Meeting People in Vancouver: Where to Go

Also in: BerlinHamburgCologneMunichViennaZurichGeneva and LausanneLyonBrusselsFrankfurtStuttgartDüsseldorfLeipzigBernBordeauxLilleMarseilleSevilleNew YorkNantesStrasbourgManchesterDublinRotterdamUtrechtLisbonPortoTorontoSydneyMelbourne

Run clubs, board games, trivia, life drawing, English conversation, dinner with strangers: eight regular meet-ups in Vancouver to meet people offline. Where, when, how much.

Five friends in their late twenties and thirties sitting on big driftwood logs on a city beach on a bright, cool fall afternoon, sharing takeout sushi from paper boxes; one laughs with her wool beanie pulled low, one passes a box along the log, one points at a freighter far out on the water, wooded mountains in soft haze across the bay behind them

Meeting people in a city is easier when you attend a recurring event: a run on Thursday evening, a games night at a cultural centre, trivia on a Tuesday. You see the same faces again, and a stranger quickly becomes someone you know. This guide only lists events that the organizer describes on its own page.

Running

Flight Crew Run Club (Vancouver Running Co., Kitsilano)

The run club of Vancouver Running Co. meets on Thursdays at 6:15 pm at the shop at 2033 W 4th Ave in Kitsilano for guided runs of 3, 5 or 10 km. All levels are welcome, and the group regroups along the way. Once a month there is also a trail run; check the page for how to join it. You don't need to sign up for the weekly run, but you sign a waiver once before your first one. The runs are free, according to the website (undated). Flight Crew Run Club

Rackets & Runners Run Club (Oak Street)

The run club of the Rackets & Runners shop meets at 3880 Oak St on Tuesdays at 6:15 pm and on Saturday mornings; the club's pages give both 8 am and 8:15 am for the Saturday start, so check before you go. There are several pace groups and options to walk or run, and all levels are welcome, including people starting out with walk/run. On Saturdays you choose between 5 km walking or running, 10 km and 15 km. If the meeting point changes, the club announces it in its newsletter or club channel. Your first session is free; after that a drop-in costs $10, and the nine-week fall session costs $90 (2026). You register or drop in, and you sign a waiver before your first session. Striderz Run Club (South Memorial track and Olympic Village)

A social running and walking group with two weekly meet-ups. On Thursdays at 6:30 pm it meets at the South Memorial track for a track session; no fixed distance is listed. On Sundays at 8:30 am the runs set off from the Olympic Village square, usually over 5 or 10 km, and the walking group meets there too, for 3 or 5 km. Playing

Game Night Thursdays (Le Centre Culturel, West 7th Avenue)

Le Centre Culturel, the francophone cultural centre at 1551 W 7th Ave, holds game evenings on three Thursdays a month, with games on site; the start time differs between dates (6:30 or 7:30 pm in the current listings), so check it on the page for each date. According to the centre, the evenings are for francophones and francophiles. Taking part is free (2026); you register on the page for each date. Game Night Thursdays at Le Centre Culturel

Vancouver Trivia Party (Carlos O'Bryan's, Kitsilano)

Talking

English Conversation Circle (West End Community Centre)

A weekly conversation circle for adults who want to practise their English, open to all levels. It meets on Tuesdays from 10 to 11:30 am in Meeting Room 1 of the West End Community Centre, through the fall season. You register through the centre's program calendar; the page gives no price. Making things

Draw It Live! (Free Form Studio, Franklin Street)

Life drawing with a model at Free Form Studio, 1654 Franklin St, on Thursdays. The session is for people aged 18 and over. The studio's 2026 page lists 6 to 8 pm, but the booking form it links gives a different time and conflicting prices, so confirm the current time and fee with the studio before you book. Sharing a table with strangers

Timeleft (restaurants, venues vary)

An app that brings you together with four to six people you don't know yet. In Vancouver, dinners take place on Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 pm. You can book on your own and meet the group at the restaurant; the app tells you the venue before the dinner. You need a subscription, whose price the page does not give, and you pay for what you eat and drink (2026). timeleft.com/vancouver

Going alone

Pick one format and go three times before you judge it. The first evening is often the most awkward, and every time you return, you are more likely to see familiar faces. A shared activity gives you something to talk about straight away: the route, the game, the quiz question, the drawing. At Striderz Run Club and Flight Crew Run Club you don't need to sign up for the weekly run, and at Timeleft you can book on your own.

Good openers are deliberately ordinary: "Is this your first time too?", "How did you find out about it?", "Have you played this game before?" Ask one follow-up question and listen to the answer.

Making plans to meet again

A good conversation does not turn into a second meeting on its own. Before you leave, suggest something concrete: "Are you coming to the run again on Thursday?" or "I'm going to trivia on Tuesday, want to join our team?" A specific suggestion is easier to answer than "We should do something sometime".

Try it this week

  • Pick one format from the table above
  • Put the date in your calendar and check it on the organizer's page
  • Arrive five minutes early and talk to one person
  • Before you leave, suggest a specific plan to meet again

For organisers

If you host evenings like these, you know the moment: people get on well and then lose touch. before is a web app for organisers. Guests check in at the door with a QR code in their browser, without installing an app, and anyone who likes takes a selfie. The day after, the afterparty is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Anyone who shared a selfie sees everyone else who shared one there and can press the button for meeting again for up to five people. At 8 pm everyone finds out at the same time who wants to see each other again, and only then does a chat open. One-sided wishes stay invisible, and nobody receives a rejection. Nobody needs a profile. More on the page before for organisers.

The afterparty opens after your event

When you check in at an event powered by before, you get the link by email, no later than 24 hours after it ends.
