Running groups, drawing together, international meet-ups and evenings in English, a pub quiz and two board game nights: real ways to meet people in Frankfurt.

People standing by a small corner kiosk on a warm evening, some holding bottles; one sits laughing on the kerb, two talk with their hands, old apartment buildings and plane trees behind them in the last light

Frankfurt has plenty of regular meet-ups, from a Tuesday board game night to a Sunday evening pub quiz, and if you go regularly, you can see the same people again. This guide sorts the options by type, with concrete examples. We only list what the organisers describe on their own pages. Times change, so check the organiser's own page before you go.

Running

A fixed time, a shared route and a chat afterwards. The PB Running Club Frankfurt describes itself as a weekly running meet-up for newcomers and anyone else who is interested. It runs on Wednesdays after work and on Saturdays, with 5 and 10 km loops along the Main riverbank. On Wednesdays, both routes meet at the Avani Hotel reception; on Saturdays, the 10 km route starts at the Literaturhaus Frankfurt and the 5 km route at the Blauer Kran in Offenbach. You get the exact meeting time after registering, and taking part is free (2026). The runs are also listed in the club's Meetup group.

RUN N RAVE Frankfurt is a 5.5 km community run that Frankfurt in Bewegung lists as a monthly series. The organiser gives the last Wednesday of the month as the usual date, but the event page does not always follow it, so check the date there before you go. You sign up on the event page. The organiser gives the Bertramswiese by the Bertramshof as the usual start; for special editions the start can differ and is announced separately, so check it before the run. The edition announced there is free (2026).

Drawing together

With Urban Sketchers Rhein-Main, people draw together at changing places across the Rhine-Main region, several times a year in Frankfurt. The group meets on the last weekend of the month where possible, and anyone interested can join, whatever their drawing level. The calendar does not mention signing up, and a newsletter announces changes. How the group is organised is explained on its information page.

Get-togethers and international evenings

The International Stammtisch is announced by the IHK Frankfurt, the Volkshochschule Frankfurt and the Newcomers Network Frankfurt on their pages. The Newcomers Network describes it as a regular after-work get-together, usually on the first Monday of the month. The venue changes, and in 2026 one date was a guided tour in English at the Historisches Museum; the edition described by the Volkshochschule was also held in English. According to the IHK, taking part is free, but you need to register in advance (2026). The dates are on the organisers' pages, so check there before you go.

Frankfurt International Meetups is a Meetup group for internationals, locals and new arrivals. According to the group description, it meets on Tuesdays and Fridays in different bars and other places, plus other dates, such as open-air meet-ups at the Yachtklub on Sachsenhäuser Ufer, where entry was €10 (2026). Price and sign-up are shown for each date.

Friday After Work Drinks is a meet-up in English on Fridays from 20:30 at various bars in the city centre; the current calendar lists the Fox and Hound in the Westend. The organiser says that many people come alone and join the group. Membership and attendance are free, and you pay for your own drinks; the Fox and Hound's weekly schedule asks for a minimum of one drink (2026). You can find the venue in the group's calendar.

Quizzes and board games

At a games table you have something to do and talk about straight away. The Frankfurt Pub Quiz Meetup Group runs a pub quiz in English, usually on Sundays, at the Fox and Hound in the Westend; according to Meetup the group meets at 19:00, and according to the pub the quiz starts at 19:30. Entry is €3 (2026), and you sign up on Meetup.

At the Boardgame-Meetup, people play on Thursdays from 19:00 at the Mehrgenerationenhaus Gallus. Groups often form on the spot, but you can also arrange a game beforehand; new faces are welcome, and so is English. The room is free, and you bring your own food and drinks (2026). The group also points to the BoardGameGeek guild Rhein-Main.

The association Spielkultur Frankfurt invites people to play board games and other analogue games on Tuesdays, at the freiraum on Oeder Weg or at the Ravenstein Zentrum. For the freiraum, its events page gives 19:00 to 22:00 and the association's page 18:00 to 22:00; at the Ravenstein Zentrum, according to the association's page, play starts at 18:45 with no fixed finishing time. Because groups on site can fill up, the freiraum's events page recommends coordinating beforehand on the association's Discord channel.

Going alone

Pick one format and go three times before you judge it. The first evening is often the most awkward, and every time you return, you are more likely to see familiar faces. A shared activity can make it easier to start a conversation by giving you something to talk about: the route, the quiz question, the game. At Friday After Work Drinks, the organiser says, many people come alone anyway.

Good openers are deliberately ordinary: "Is this your first time too?", "How did you find out about it?", "Do you play here often?" Ask one follow-up question and listen to the answer.

Making plans to meet again

A good conversation does not turn into a second meeting on its own. Before you leave, suggest something concrete: "Are you coming to the games night again next Tuesday?" or "I'm going to the quiz on Sunday, want to come?" A specific suggestion is easier to answer than "We should do something sometime".

Try it this week

  • Pick one format from the table above
  • Put the date in your calendar and check it on the organiser's page
  • Arrive five minutes early and talk to one person
  • Before you leave, suggest a specific plan to meet again

For organisers

If you host evenings like these, you know the moment: people get on well and then lose touch. before is a web app for organisers. Guests check in at the door with a QR code in their browser, without installing an app, and anyone who likes takes a selfie. The day after, the afterparty is open from 10 am to 8 pm. Anyone who shared a selfie sees everyone else who shared one there and can press the button for meeting again for up to five people. At 8 pm everyone finds out at the same time who wants to see each other again, and only then does a chat open. One-sided wishes stay invisible, and nobody receives a rejection. Nobody needs a profile. More on the page before for organisers.

The afterparty opens after your event

When you check in at an event powered by before, you get the link by email, no later than 24 hours after it ends.
